An Incredible Town for Your Next Weekend Getaway
Sometimes, life’s unexpected twists lead to the most memorable adventures. Recently, my sister-in-law was getting married in Indiana, and we couldn’t have been more excited to celebrate her big day. But as fate would have it, the Indy 500 coincided with her wedding weekend, leaving us without a single hotel room in the city. That’s how we stumbled upon NULU, a charming neighborhood in Louisville, KY, that we now can’t wait to revisit.
A Stay to Remember at Hotel Genevieve
From the moment we walked into Hotel Genevieve, it felt like a dream. Nestled in the heart of NULU, this boutique hotel combines sophisticated, eclectic design with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Every corner of the hotel was thoughtfully curated—from the stylish lobby to the serene guest rooms that practically begged us to stay forever. They had one of my favorite soap brands Ortigia (which we sell at my Flagship shop). Even the Lobby Sundry shop Mini Marche was picture perfect!
And then there was Bar Genevieve on the top floor. The view was absolutely breathtaking, and sipping cocktails while watching the sunset made for a magical evening. Honestly, I may have spent more time at the hotel than I originally planned, simply because it was too beautiful to leave!
Shopping Adventures in Downtown NULU
Of course, I eventually ventured out, and NULU did not disappoint. This vibrant neighborhood is a haven for unique shopping experiences, brimming with local charm. Shopping local is always my favorite, and this area may not be huge, but it is FULL of amazing boutiques.
Our first stop was Mahonia, a dreamy plant store that I would move into if I could. The lush greenery, artful arrangements, and carefully curated selection of plants made it hard to leave empty-handed. If not for the constraints of air travel, I would have taken half the store home. Instead, I settled for one small but perfect plant that now reminds me of our trip every time I see it.
Next up was Revelry, a vibrant shop showcasing local artists and makers. From stunning prints to handcrafted jewelry, every piece in the store felt like a work of art. It was a joy to explore and support the incredible talent that calls Louisville home.
Lastly, we wandered into Red Tree Home Furnishings, where I fell in love with their mix of vintage-inspired and modern decor. The furniture and accents were so thoughtfully displayed, making it easy to imagine how they’d look in my own home. I’m still dreaming about a gorgeous chair that I wish I could’ve fit in my suitcase!
Dining Delights in NULU
No trip is complete without indulging in the local cuisine, and NULU’s dining scene left us thoroughly impressed. One standout meal was dinner at Meesh Meesh, where we experienced an incredible culinary journey. Every dish was bursting with flavor, but it was the labneh that truly stole our hearts. Creamy, tangy, and perfectly seasoned, it was so good that we couldn’t get enough. The warm ambiance and attentive service made the evening even more special, and it’s a spot we’ll definitely return to on our next visit.
A Neighborhood to Revisit
Our unexpected detour to NULU turned out to be the highlight of our trip. The neighborhood’s blend of creativity, warmth, and charm left an indelible mark on us. From the stunning stay at Hotel Genevieve to the unique shops and local flavor, it was a weekend filled with delightful surprises.
As we drove away, I couldn’t help but think about how life has a funny way of guiding us to hidden gems when we least expect it. We’re already planning our return to NULU—next time, with extra room in our luggage for all the treasures we’ll undoubtedly find.
