Cornell Museum Holiday Tree

With 2020 being a very hard year, we were all in need of an extra dose of joy! It was such an honor to be asked by the Cornell Museum to create a “joyful” holiday tree! Standing 16 feet tall, able to be seen on two stories all the way around and 6 feet wide at the base, I completely covered an evergreen tree with colorful, sparkly ornaments and decorations.

From pom pom covered balls, handmade tassels, and 100 yards of tulle fabric, every single inch of the tree was covered.

I set up two mannequins one at the bottom and one on the second floor to “decorate” the tree. I love everything to have a little extra something, so this helped the viewer feel like they were part of the experience.

I hand sculpted with wire and then covered 30 words of inspiration with colorful tubing and happiness for all who entered the museum.

I wanted the tree to be super impactful, so I made a 5 foot tree topper to be the “icing on the cake”. I actually took a tomato cone to use as the base, and then added tulle, more words, colorful twists, pom poms and tassels to make it extra fun.

It took two months to create all of the decorations for the tree, and I truly loved every minute of it. I will always jump at any opportunity to bring an extra dose of joy into someone’s life, and this was the perfect way to end 2020 a bit more joyfully.
